Call for Survey Articles
The amount of publications in Economic History has grown rapidly during the last years and many new and old topics have received increasing attention. Furthermore, this growing number of contributions have appeared in many diverse forms (articles, chapters of edited books and books) and disparate outlets outside the main discipline’s journals and academic publishers. The need for synthesizing and filtering new knowledge is growing. Consequently, the editors of the European Review of Economic History have decided to launch a new call for survey articles. These surveys’ objective is to help keep economic historians, and other social scientists, well informed of new research and help teach of Economic History.
The editors will commission many new survey articles, but we are happy to consider unsolicited proposals. Those interested in writing a survey article for the Review are invited to begin with a summary of about five to ten pages, describing the main contents of the proposed survey, explaining why the topic is deserving of our readers' attention and listing the main references to be covered. The survey proposals should be e-mailed to the editors of the Review. Editors expect to provide an initial answer to these proposals in about one month. The final surveys will be subject to the normal external review.
In editors’ view, a good economic history survey has several characteristics: (1) it addresses a question that it is important for the debates in economic history and has attracted abundant research; (2) it provides a good synthesis of the current knowledge, debates and areas for further research; (3) it is accessible to different readers which are not necessarily trained economic historians; (4) and it includes a good coverage, but selective, of the relevant literature. Given the multidisciplinary character of economic history, the intended audience is not only formed by professional economic historians but also by other social scientists.
