Digital Determinants of Health

  • Share

This collection on the Digital Determinants of Health features articles relating to Health Promotion International's priority area of Determinants of Health. It includes publications that date back to the year 2011. The impetus for this collection is our newly published editorial from Louise Holly and Professor Ilona Kickbusch “Addressing the digital determinants of health: Health promotion must lead the charge” which sets out a compelling argument for increased focus on the Digital Determinants of Health.

The collection features a variety of publications addressing a multitude of aspects related to digitally driven factors that affect health and well-being, including digital communication technologies, the Internet, Social Media, online and digital marketing, digital health services, digital policies, and online health information environments. Considering the Digital Determinants of Health for health promotion is critical to better understand the health potentials and risks emerging from digital world.

The collection reflects the fact that health promotion takes a determinants-based approach to improve individual and population health. While the social, cultural, and political determinants of health represent longstanding public health and health promotion topics, and a plethora of publications at Health Promotion International are already dedicated to these determinants, new determinants such as the commercial and digital determinants of health have arisen on the horizon. The collection provides an overview of the publication scope of Health Promotion International regarding the Digital Determinants of Health, and likewise with all our Collections, we will update and modify the collection upon arrival of new publications which related to this topic.
