Mathematical Medicine & Biology: A Journal of the IMA Best Paper Prize

To celebrate the Journal's 30th year of publication, we launched a best paper prize, recognising the most outstanding research published in the Journal. The prize is £1,000 and will be awarded every two years, usually at the Society of Mathematical Biology annual conference.

2021 Best Paper Prize winner

We are proud to announce the winning paper of the 2021 Best Paper Prize:

A mathematical model for bleb regulation in zebrafish primordial germ cells
Carolin Dirks, Paul Striewski, Benedikt Wirth, Anne Aalto, and Adan Olguin-Olguin

2019 Best Paper Prize winner

We are proud to announce the winning paper of the 2019 Best Paper Prize:

Emergent three-dimensional sperm motility: coupling calcium dynamics and preferred curvature in a Kirchhoff rod model
Lucia Carichino and Sarah D Olson

2017 Best Paper Prize winner

We are proud to announce the winning paper of the 2017 Best Paper Prize:

A Two-phase mixture model of platelet aggregation
Jian Du and Aaron L. Fogelson

2015 Best Paper Prize winner

We are proud to announce the winning paper of the 2015 Best Paper Prize:

Modelling the interaction between the host immune response, bacterial dynamics and inflammatory damage in comparison with immunomodulation and vaccination experiments
Angela M. Jarrett, N. G. Cogan, and M. E. Shirtliff

The authors are commended for their careful development and analysis of a mathematical model that brings valuable insights to experimental data and new understanding of an important biological application.

2023 Best Paper Prize

Any paper submitted to Mathematical Medicine & Biology between January 2021 and December 2022, and subsequently accepted for publication in the journal, will automatically be considered for the 2023 £1,000 Best Paper Prize. All entries will be judged by a committee drawn from the Editorial Board and will be announced in 2023. The prize will be awarded to the authors of the paper deemed by the committee to show the greatest originality and significance, particularly in combining mathematical depth with biological or biomedical impact.

This is an open competition and no restrictions on authorship will be imposed, except that Co-Editors are ineligible and no Associate Editor who is an author of a candidate paper can serve on the judging committee.
