Abstract
This chapter provides Veterans with information about how to change the cycle of thoughts and feelings. It introduces the A-B-C-D approach to help Veterans s learn how to uncover and address their negative beliefs, which are central assumptions people hold about themselves and the world. These negative beliefs tend to get woven into thought processes and influence many different aspects of people's daily lives. The chapter highlights the importance of the downward arrow technique, which slows thinking down and helps clients to examine what the negative thought means to them. It also highlights how the three cognitive skills introduced in this program are different but still complement one another.
