Magnus Bäck

Magnus Bäck is Professor of Cardiology at the Karolinska University Hospital and Head of Translational Cardiology at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. He is also Director of the INSERM unit 1116 in Nancy, France, where he holds an invited professorship at the University of Lorraine. Magnus Bäck’s present work combines clinical cardiology in coronary and valvular heart disease with translational research on aortic valve stenosis, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular risk factors, with emphasis on the role of inflammation.
Magnus Bäck is actively involved in the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), including previous missions as chair of the ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology, ex officio board member of the Stroke Council and the Cardiovascular Basic Science Council, serving on the Scientific Document Committee of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), and one of the Editors for the ESC Textbook on Vascular Biology. He is currently part of the ESC Publications Committee and the ESC Congress Programme Committee.
