The ERAE is seeking to appoint two new Editors for the periods beginning September 2011 and September 2012. Candidates should be familiar with the agricultural economics profession in Europe, and have an extensive knowledge of the relevant literature. They should have a good publishing record and proven reviewing expertise. Experience as a member of the Editorial Board of a scientific journal is an advantage. A stimulating vision regarding the position and development of the ERAE should accompany these scholarly requirements. Ability to work in a team and to manage deadlines is also required.

Profile of the ERAE

The ERAE is a quarterly scientific journal that publishes peer-reviewed research papers and book reviews. It strives for balanced coverage of economic issues within the broad subject matter of agricultural and food production, consumption and trade, rural development, and resource use and conservation. The ERAE is international in its readership, coverage, and published authors. Its current 5 year impact factor is 1.885 and its (2 year) impact factor is 0.860 (ranked 2nd and 5th respectively in Agricultural Economics and Policy).

Ownership and legally defined parameters

The Foundation ERAE owns the Review; the material published in the ERAE is jointly owned by Oxford University Press (OUP) and the Foundation ERAE. The ERAE operates with three Editors, who are preferably located in different European countries. The normal term for an Editor is 4 years, which can be increased to a maximum of 6 years in order to facilitate the smooth changeover between Editors.

Current ERAE Editors

Editorship is currently shared by Thomas Heckelei (University of Bonn), Paolo Sckokai (Catholic University, Piacenza), and Christoph Weiss (Vienna University of Economics and Business). Heckelei and Sckokai retire as editors on 31 August 2011 and 31 August 2012 (sequence still open at the time of this announcement), thereby creating this double vacancy, whereas the contracted term for Christoph Weiss expires on 31 August 2013.

Editors’ duties and method of working

The main duty of the Editors is to provide the publisher with material for publication in the Review that is of good scientific and presentational quality, selected according to ERAE submission and peer-review protocols. The working language is English. The full contractual duties are set out in an Editors’ Contract between the Editors, OUP, and the Foundation ERAE, which can be requested by potential applicants from any of the following: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected], or [email protected].

Nearly all communication among Editors, as well as between Editors and authors, referees and editorial assistant, occurs digitally.

Editors’ compensation

OUP currently pays the editorial team a total of EUR 9,600 per year plus 8 per cent of the Review's total revenue (the Editors’ ‘royalty’). The royalty is determined and paid at the end of the financial year.1 The Editors share the compensation among themselves, according to a formula adopted by mutual agreement. Currently, they have opted to share the total compensation according to the number of papers handled by each Editor. Other formulae are possible.
