IDSA Reviewer Recognition and Reward Program

Peer review is a cornerstone of the scientific process and the foundation of the IDSA journals’ efforts to publish the best clinical and translational science in infectious diseases. To thank our peer reviewers for their work on behalf of the ID community, IDSA has launched a comprehensive reviewer recognition and reward program.

Our goal in launching this program is to provide consistent, year-round recognition for our peer reviewers as well as tangible benefits for our most dedicated reviewers.

Recognition for All Reviewers

All individuals who complete a review for an IDSA journal during a calendar year are recognized in the following ways:

  • All reviewers are included in the journal’s annual reviewer thank-you list, which is published both in print (for our print journals) and online and promoted via email, social media, and website advertising.
  • All reviewers receive reviewer recognition certificates provided by our publishers at Oxford University Press.
  • All reviewers can elect to participate in the Publons Web of Science and ORCID reviewer recognition program via the IDSA journals.
  • All reviewers can qualify to receive up to 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) for any peer reviews they submit, up to a maximum of 15 per year (CME qualification is based on editors’ ratings of the quality of each review).

Rewards for Frequent Reviewers

All reviewers who complete at least three reviews of appropriate quality and timeliness for one IDSA journal in a calendar year will be rewarded the following calendar year with their choice of either free page charges in CID or JID, or a 20% discount on open access fees in any IDSA journal. These rewards can be claimed with any IDSA journal, not just the journal where the reviews were performed.

In addition, we are including our top 100 most frequent reviewers from 2020-2023 for the launch of this rewards program as a small way to thank the ID community for all of the time and energy they poured into review for the IDSA journals during the height of the COVID pandemic.

Recognition for Top Reviewers

Each journal will recognize its best reviewers, selected based on number of reviews completed, timeliness and review quality, with recognition letters each quarter.

In addition, the top three reviewers from each journal will be recognized with a “Reviewer of the Year” award. Our Reviewers of the Year will receive paid registration to IDWeek and will be invited to attend the IDSA Editor’s Reception at IDWeek, in addition to recognition in the MyIDSA Community, IDSA News, our journal social media channels, and elsewhere.

Additional Details for Rewards Program Recipients

  • Your reward can be used for a paper in a regular, non-supplement issue of any IDSA journal (note that page charges only apply to Clinical Infectious Diseases or The Journal of Infectious Diseases).
  • You must claim your reward in the year you receive it (in other words, if you qualify to be part of this program in 2025, you must claim your reward in 2025).
  • Your reward can be used for any paper where you appear on the author list; you don’t need to be the corresponding or senior author on the paper.
  • Your reward cannot be transferred to another person.
  • To use your reward, when submitting your paper, you must answer “yes” to the question asking if you are using a reviewer reward. No rewards can be claimed after acceptance of a paper. While we ask you to claim your reward when your paper is submitted, if your paper is not accepted, your reward won’t be used — it’s only used once your paper is accepted.
  • Only one reward code can be applied to a given manuscript.
