Key Points
- The methodology of forming and using a set of natural characteristics of the territory based on the watershed approach is an effective tool for organizing and implementing natural resource management at the regional and interregional levels.
- A detailed, multilevel hierarchical system of watershed delineation of the territory, developed according to a hydrologically correct digital elevation model, provides the possibility of straightforward formation of a multiscale, geospatial database based on ground, satellite, and reanalysis data.

Key Points
- To assess the vigor state of suburban forests, a set of methods involving evaluation of classic inventory parameters as well as an original method to examine the temporary increase in the needle size were used.
- Dynamics of the measured characteristics of two suburban pine forests of the industrial metropolis Krasnoyarsk (Central Siberia, Russia) for the period 2002–2021 proved deterioration of the forests with the maximal rate of parameter change for the last three-year period.
- We associate the deterioration of forests with chronic atmospheric toxicity in Krasnoyarsk.
- We conclude by stating the urgent necessity for forest-based bioindication to be involved in the system of air quality monitoring and control in the industrial cities of Russia.

Key Points
- Most of the rivers draining oil field areas were characterized by low potential for self-purification in both periods of the research caused by disturbances in the structure of microbial community, which led to accumulation in water bodies of hard-to-mineralize products of organic matter destruction.
- The sufficient level of self-purification criteria was obtained in 23% of rivers, indicating a significant content of semidecomposed organic substances involved in the ammonification process, and ensuring the maintenance of a trophical level and environmental balance of the aquatic ecosystem.
- As regards spatial distribution, an increase in mineralization coefficients downstream has been detected; no statistically significant differences in the average values of mineralization coefficients obtained in different periods of the study were found.
- The inclusion of a self-purification assessment method for rivers in the monitoring program demonstrates effective results in the sphere of water resource management, as it helps to reveal the rivers' polluted sections and provide an overview of the potential ability of water bodies for self-purification.
