Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts should be submitted through this website.

Papers must be submitted as .pdf files. No other file formats are accepted. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to provide a LATEX source file of the paper, so please bear this in mind when preparing the paper for submission. Further information on this is given below.

Authors may not submit papers that are under consideration for publication elsewhere, and, if an author decides to offer a submitted paper to another journal, the paper must be withdrawn from IMAJNA before the new submission is made.

Supplementary material Manuscripts may include supplementary material to be made available by the publisher as online-only content, linked to the online manuscript. Manuscripts accompanied by online Supplementary material are designated with an ' S ' in the Table of Contents in the print edition. Definition of Supplementary material and guidelines for submitting it.

All figures provided in colour will automatically be published online in colour, with no charge. Authors are charged £350 per figure for colour reproduction in print if this is requested. However, some print colour figures may be reproduced for free at the discretion of the Editors.

Figure accessibility and alt text

Incorporating alt text (alternative text) when submitting your paper helps to foster inclusivity and accessibility. Good alt text ensures that individuals with visual impairments or those using screen readers can comprehend the content and context of your figures. The aim of alt text is to provide concise and informative descriptions of your figure so that all readers have access to the same level of information and understanding, and that all can engage with and benefit from the visual elements integral to scholarly content. Including alt text demonstrates a commitment to accessibility and enhances the overall impact and reach of your work.

Alt text is applicable to all images, figures, illustrations, and photographs.

Alt text is only accessible via e-reader and so it won’t appear as part of the typeset article.

Detailed guidance on how to draft and submit alt text

Form of Manuscript

The title page should include the name, affiliation and address of each author, and a short abstract. Each section, including the introduction, should be numbered, with equations numbered, for example (2.1), (2.2), etc. in section 2, on the right-hand side of the page. Nonstandard notation should be explained in the text. Footnotes should be kept to the minimum.

For specific information regarding style, please refer to the IMA style guide.

References

The Harvard system of references, giving the surname of the author(s) and year of publication in the text, should be used. Each listed reference should begin with the authors' surnames followed by initials, the year, and the title of the work. Then, for a journal article, the journal name (abbreviated in accordance with Mathematical Reviews ), volume number, and inclusive page numbers should follow, while, for a book, the title, the editor (if applicable), the place of publication, and publisher should be stated.

Acceptance of Latex by the IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis

Authors of accepted papers will be asked to provide the LATEX source files of their paper.

Our class files are available online at Overleaf and also as a downloadable package via the links below.

Overleaf is a free, collaborative online LaTeX editor that allows you to write your manuscript in a TeX or rich text environment, to generate PDF outputs as you write, and to share your manuscript with co-authors and collaborators. When ready for submission, the manuscript files can be downloaded from Overleaf and submitted to the journal’s online submission system.

Please carefully follow all of the usual instructions to authors as detailed above and ensure that your references follow the correct referencing system.

Copyright

It is a condition of publication in the Journal that authors complete a copyright licence form. Upon receipt of accepted manuscripts at Oxford Journals, authors will be invited to complete this.

Please note that by submitting an article for publication you confirm that you are the corresponding/submitting author and that Oxford University Press ("OUP") may retain your email address for the purpose of communicating with you about the article. You agree to notify OUP immediately if your details change. If your article is accepted for publication OUP will contact you using the email address you have used in the registration process. Please note that OUP does not retain copies of rejected articles.

This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently and will also allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. In assigning copyright, authors may use their own material in publications provided that the Journal is acknowledged as the original place of publication, and Oxford University Press is notified in writing and in advance. In consideration of this, the publisher will supply free electronic access to the corresponding author of an article. Authors will get a free URL link to their article online.

Crossref Funding Data Registry

In order to meet your funding requirements authors are required to name their funding sources, or state if there are none, during the submission process. For further information on this process or to find out more about CHORUS, visit the CHORUS initiative.

Open Access Option for Authors

IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis offers the option of publishing under either a standard licence or an open access licence. Please note that some funders require open access publication as a condition of funding. If you are unsure whether you are required to publish open access, please do clarify any such requirements with your funder or institution.

Should you wish to publish your article open access, you should select your choice of open access licence in our online system after your article has been accepted for publication. You will need to pay an open access charge to publish under an open access licence.

Details of the open access licences and open access charges.

OUP has a growing number of Read and Publish agreements with institutions and consortia which provide funding for open access publishing. This means authors from participating institutions can publish open access, and the institution may pay the charge. Find out if your institution is participating.

Author Toll Free Link and Discounts

All corresponding authors will be provided with a free access link to their article upon publication.  The link will be sent via email to the article’s corresponding author who is free to share the link with any co-authors.  Please see OUP’s Author Self-Archiving policy for more information regarding how this link may be publicly shared depending on the type of license under which the article has published.

All authors have the option to purchase up to 10 print copies of the issue in which they publish at a 50% discount. Orders should be placed through this order form. Orders must be made within 12 months of the online publication date.

Author Self-Archiving/Public Access Policy

For information about this journal's policy, please visit our Author Self-Archiving page in the “About” section of the journals homepage.

Ethical Publication

This Journal takes publication ethics very seriously. If misconduct is found or suspected after the manuscript is published, the journal will investigate the matter and this may result in the article subsequently being retracted.

Natural language processing tools driven by artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT do not qualify as authors, and OUP will screen for them in author lists. The use of AI (for example, to help generate content or images, write code, process data, or for translation) must be disclosed both in cover letters to editors and in the Methods or Acknowledgements section of manuscripts.

Availability of Data and Materials

Where ethically feasible, IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis strongly encourages authors to make all data and software code on which the conclusions of the paper rely available to readers. We suggest that data be presented in the main manuscript or additional supporting files, or deposited in a public repository whenever possible. For information on general repositories for all data types, and a list of recommended repositories by subject area, please see Choosing where to archive your data.

Data Citation

IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis supports the Force 11 Data Citation Principles and requires that all publicly available datasets be fully referenced in the reference list with an accession number or unique identifier such as a digital object identifier (DOI). Data citations should include the minimum information recommended by DataCite:

  • [dataset]* Authors, Year, Title, Publisher (repository or archive name), Identifier

*The inclusion of the [dataset] tag at the beginning of the citation helps us to correctly identify and tag the citation. This tag will be removed from the citation published in the reference list.

Preprint Policy

Authors retain the right to make an Author’s Original Version (preprint) available through various channels, and this does not prevent submission to the journal. For further information see our Online Licensing, Copyright and Permissions policies. If accepted, the authors are required to update the status of any preprint, including your published paper’s DOI, as described on our Author Self-Archiving policy page.

Pre-submission language editing

If your first language is not English, we recommend that you consult an English language editing service to ensure that the academic content of your paper is fully understood by journal editors and reviewers. Language editing does not guarantee that your manuscript will be accepted for publication. For further information on this service, please visit the language services webpage. Authors are liable for all costs associated with such services.
