About the Journal

The Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education (JDSDE) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal. The aims and scope of the journal are to integrate and coordinate basic and applied research relating to deaf individuals, including cultural, growth and developmental, linguistic, and educational topics.

JDSDE addresses issues of current and future concern to allied fields, encouraging interdisciplinary discussion. The journal promises a forum that is timely, of high quality, and accessible to researchers, educators, and consumers broadly.

The journal consists of four issues per year, including occasional special issues and a companion website. Instructions for contributors appear at the back of each issue.

The Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education (JDSDE) is committed to being a scholarly community that honors the diversity that exists among its readers, authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and especially the deaf children, adolescents, and adults about whom articles are written. As such, JDSDE is committed to increasing diversity in all areas of the publication process by creating processes that value and center historically marginalized perspectives. As members of JDSDE, we aim to listen and learn from the lived experiences and wisdom of deaf people acknowledging the impact of research and discourse in our field on the lives of Deaf, Deaf BIPOC, Deaf Blind, Deaf Queer, Deaf Disabled, and Hard of Hearing communities.
