Journal of Economic Geography Early Career Researcher Paper Prize

Each year, prizes are awarded to up to two published papers with at least one author who completed their PhD seven years ago or less at the time of paper acceptance (not including any time out taken for parental or other caring leave). The winning papers are selected by the JOEG editorial team.

The Prize recipients will be recognized on the JOEG website, and will also receive £200 worth of OUP books and a year’s online subscription to JOEG. No alternative prizes will be offered and OUP reserves the right to make changes to the prize at any time and without advanced notice. In the unlikely event that, in the editors’ opinion, the material submitted is not of a suitable standard or too few submissions are received, no prize will be awarded.

2024 Prize Winners

The 2024 winners are Linus Kalvelage and Benedikt Walker for their paper “Strategic coupling beyond borders: Germany’s extraterritorial agency in Namibia’s green hydrogen industry”, and Mitchell Goldberg (with Peter Kugler and Fabian Schär) for their paper “Land valuation in the metaverse: location matters”.
