Reviews and awards

The University Press of Mississippi titles were awarded the Chicago Folklore Prize in 2005, 2006, 2008. The Chicago Folklore Prize honors the best book-length work of folklore scholarship for the year and is the oldest international award recognizing excellence in folklore scholarship. 

In 2012 and 2013 UPM titles were named the best Educational/Academic Work at the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. The Eisner Awards are considered the “Oscars” of the comics world. 

Jeet Heer, writing for the The Comics Journal, referred to the Press as the “by far the leading publisher of scholarly comics criticism in North America.”
