Abstract
Insecticide ear tags were evaluated on flocks of sheep that varied in size from 11 to 50 animals. The tags, which were smaller than conventional cattle ear tags, were ca. 5 g each. All mature sheep in the flocks had been shorn between 15 Mar and 21 May ‘84. In flocks of ewes and lambs, only the ewes were treated. In flocks that were primarily dry ewes (plus a few yearlings) or rams, every animal was treated. Treated animals received tags in both ears. Each flock was teated between 5 and 14 Jun ‘84. Sheep ked population densities were determined in the treated and 3 untreated flocks by making whole body counts of adult keds on either 5 lambs and 5 ewes or 10 mature animals immediately preceding and 4 to 6 wk following treatment.
