On 23 August 2013, a foliar insecticide study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of soybean loopers and southern green stinkbugs in soybeans on the R.R. Foil Plant Science Research Center in Starkville, MS. Seven insecticide treatments were evaluated against the untreated control for control of soybean looper (SBL) and southern green stinkbug (SGSB). Plots were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Plot size was four rows by 50 feet long on 38 inch centers. Insecticides were applied with a tractor-mounted sprayer calibrated to deliver 10.0 gpa at 60 psi through TX-6 Hollow Cone nozzles (2 per row) when soybeans were at the R5 growth stage.

Insect populations were evaluated at 2 and 6 d after treatment (DAT) applications. Plots were sampled by taking 20 sweeps per plot with a 15-in-diameter sweep net and recording the number of SBL larvae and SGSB nymphs per sample. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, and means were separated using Fisher’s Protected LSD (P ≤ 0.05).

All insecticides significantly reduced populations of SBL compared with the untreated check at 2 and 6 DAT (Table 1). Besiege and Intrepid Edge plus Karate significantly reduced populations of SGSB nymphs compared with the untreated check at 2 and 6 DAT (Table 1).1
