In 2021, an insecticide efficacy test was conducted on lepidopteran pests at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS. Peanut seed was planted at 8 seed per foot on 18 May 2021 in plots that were 13.33 feet wide (4 rows) and 40 feet long on 40-inch centers. The study was conducted in a randomized complete block with four replications. Seven insecticides were applied on 10 August 2021 with a tractor mounted hooded boom sprayer calibrated to apply 15 GPA at 42 PSI through TeeJet 8001 flat fan nozzles (2 per row). Plots were sampled with a 15-inch-diameter sweep net (25 sweeps per plot) at 3 and 7 d after application (DA-A). Samples included the following lepidopteran pest: corn earworm, saltmarsh caterpillar, fall armyworm, and soybean looper. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, and means were separated according to Fisher’s Protected Least Significant Difference.
At 3 DA-A, all insecticide treatments significantly reduced lepidopteran densities when compared with the untreated control (UTC) (Table 1). At 7 DA-A, Intrepid Edge at 6 fl. oz, Besiege, and all Elevest rates reduced lepidopteran densities when compared to the UTC. Intrepid Edge at 4 and 5 fl. oz were no different than the UTC.1
