Efficacy of foliar applied insecticides on redbanded stink bug and yield in soybean III, 2022

On 13 Sep 2022, redbanded stinkbug insecticide efficacy trials were conducted at Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, Mississippi, to evaluate 9 insecticides compared to an untreated check. Field studies were implemented as a randomized complete block with 4 replications. All plots received applications with a MUDMASTER, 4WD Multi-Purpose Sprayer (Bowman manufacturing, Newport, Arkansas) equipped with a compressed-air high-clearance mounted multi-boom calibrated to deliver 10 gallons per acre at 50 PSI using TX-6 Hollow Cone nozzles (2 nozzles per row) (TeeJet Technologies, Glendale, Illinois). The treatments were 2 different rates of Orthene 90S, Endigo ZCX, Warrior II, 2 different rates of Brigade 2EC, Wrangler 4F, Leverage 360, and Baythroid XL. Redbanded stink bugs were sampled 3, 6, 10, and 14 DAT by taking 25 sweeps per plot with a 38.1-cm-diameter sweep net. Adult and nymph counts were combined together and held equal weight. Yields were taken on the center 2 rows of each plot. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, and means were separated using Fishers protected LSD (P ≤ 0.05).

At 3 DAT, Brigade 2EC at 6.4 fl oz/ac resulted in the lowest overall number of red banded stink bugs, but it was not different from several other treatments. Endigo ZCX, both rates of Orthene, Leverage 360, and Baythroid XL also had significantly lower red banded stink bugs than the untreated check at this sample date. At 6 DAT, all treatments, except for Baythroid XL, Wrangler 4F, and Brigade 2EC at 5.12 fl oz/ac, resulted in significantly lower red banded stink bug numbers than the untreated check. At 10 DAT, only Leverage 360, Orthene at 0.75 lb ai/ac, and Endigo ZCX resulted in lower red banded stink bug counts than the untreated check. At the last sample date 14 DAA, all treatments resulted in significantly lower red banded stink bug counts than the untreated check, except for Wrangler 4F and Orthene at 0.50 lb ai/ac. Both rates of Brigade 2EC, Endigo ZCX, Orthene at 0.50 lb ai/ac, and Leverage 360 resulted in yields significantly higher than the untreated control (Table 1).¹
