In 2023, tarnished plant bug (TPB) efficacy trials were conducted to evaluate 12 insecticide treatments along with an untreated control in Glendora, MS. This trial was conducted as a randomized completed block design with 4 replications. Plots were 4 rows wide by 40 feet in length on 38-inch centers. Insecticide treatments were applied with a tractor-mounted spray calibrated to deliver 10.0 GPA at 60 PSI using TX-6 Hollow Cone nozzles (2 per row). Insecticide application was made on 20 Jul. TPB populations were evaluated 4, 7, 11, and 14 days after treatment (DAT). Insecticide efficacy was determined by taking 2 drops, using a black drop cloth 5 row feet in length, from the center 2 rows of each plot. Total TPB nymphs were reported from each plot. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, and means were separated using Fisher’s Protected LSD (P ≤ 0.05).

At 4 DAT, Transform, Vydate, Orthene 0.77, Orthene + Admire Pro, Orthene 1.1, Diamond, and Plinazolin Technology all were statistically different from the untreated control, while Centric, Brigade + Orthene, Bidrin, Admire Pro, and Carbine were all statistically similar to the untreated control (Table 1). By 7 DAT, Centric, Orthene 1.1, Brigade + Orthene, Bridrin, Admire Pro, and Carbine were all statistically similar and showed less control compared to Transform, Vydate, Orthene 0.77, Orthene + Admire Pro, Diamond, and Plinazolin Technology, which were statistically different from the untreated control. At 11 DAT, all treatments were statistically separated from the untreated control. By 14 DAT, Diamond and Plinazolin Technology were the only 2 treatments with statistically lower TPB numbers than the untreated control.1
