About the NAR Journals
Nucleic Acids Research (NAR) began its journey in 1974 with the goal of fostering connections and highlighting the significance of scientific endeavors across various specialties related to nucleic acids. In 2019, NAR Genomics and Bioinformatics emerged, providing a platform for large-scale data analysis in genomics and bioinformatics within the field of nucleic acids research. Later that same year, NAR Cancer was established, serving as a dedicated space for cancer research and nucleic acids. In 2023, we proudly introduced NAR Molecular Medicine, a hub for nucleic acids research with a focus on translational medicine.
The NAR Journals are all fully open access publications, published with Oxford University Press, a not-for-profit publisher dedicated to advancing excellence in research, scholarship, and education. The commitment of the NAR Journals to open research enhances reproducibility and transparency, eliminates access barriers, and propels scientific progress toward new frontiers.
Learn more about each journal below.
Nucleic Acids Research (NAR)
NAR publishes the results of leading-edge research into physical, chemical, biochemical and biological aspects of nucleic acids and proteins involved in nucleic acid metabolism and/or interactions. It enables the rapid publication of papers under the following categories: Chemistry and Nucleic Acid Chemistry; Computational biology; Data Resources and Analyses; Gene Regulation; Chromatin and Epigenetics; Genome Integrity, Repair and Replication; Genomics; Molecular Biology; Nucleic Acid Enzymes; RNA and RNA-protein complexes; Structural Biology; and Synthetic Biology and Bioengineering. A Critical Reviews and Perspectives section provides a format for brief reviews. NAR Methods provides a forum for the online publication of methods papers.
The first issue of each year is devoted to biological databases, and an issue in July is devoted to papers describing web-based software resources of value to the biological community.
NAR Genomics and Bioinformatics
NAR Genomics and Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary journal focused on genomics and bioinformatics large-scale data analysis. It aims to provide the community with high-quality results, analysis, and methods in all aspects of genomics and bioinformatics, including novel computational or experimental methods and novel biological findings related to genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and epigenetics.
NAR Cancer
NAR Cancer publishes original research and Critical Reviews and Perspectives articles at the intersection of the nucleic acids research and cancer fields, including cancer computational biology and data resources, DNA damage sensing and repair, gene regulation and chromatin, genomics, methods, nucleic acid-based therapeutics, and structural biology.
NAR Molecular Medicine
NAR Molecular Medicine is a cutting-edge new journal in the NAR family portfolio. The journal is fully open access and publishes original research and critical reviews at the intersection of nucleic acid biology, therapeutics, and the molecular mechanisms of disease. The journal considers papers within this broad scope from all areas of clinical medicine, pathology, molecular and cellular biology, structure-activity investigations related to disease, computation and drug discovery.
