About the Journal
Shakespeare Quarterly (SQ) is a leading journal in Shakespeare studies, publishing highly original, rigorously researched essays, notes, and book reviews. Published for the Folger Shakespeare Library by Oxford University Press, SQ is peer-reviewed and extremely selective. The essays published in our pages span the field, including scholarship about new media and early modern race, textual and theater history, ecocritical and posthuman approaches, and archival and historicist work. Our mission, simply put, is to present the best, most current scholarship on Shakespeare, and we are eager to receive strong work in all areas of Shakespeare studies by scholars at every career-stage.
SQ is in the midst of an editorial transition. Jeremy Lopez’s term, now in its eighth year, is coming to an end, and a new three-person editorial team is coming on board. Vanessa I. Corredera (Andrews University), Arthur L. Little, Jr. (University of California Los Angeles), and David McInnis (University of Melbourne), will take over leadership of the journal in 2026.
The new editors will begin vetting incoming submissions more or less immediately, i.e. as of March 2025. Jeremy Lopez will continue to work with authors whose submissions have been accepted, or who have submitted (or are planning to submit) a revision of an essay for which a decision of “Revise and Resubmit” was given during his editorship.
Book reviewers with active assignments should continue to correspond with book review editor M. L. Stapleton. New book review queries should be addressed to Jeremy Lopez for the time being. Watch this space for future updates on book reviews.
General questions about the editorial transition should be addressed to Jeremy Lopez. Specific questions about editorial policies for new submissions should be addressed to any one or all of the new editors: Vanessa I. Corredera, Arthur L. Little, Jr., or David McInnis.
