It publishes two issues per year, comprising a wide range of article types, namely research articles, advance articles, and book reviews. The journal welcomes manuscript submissions in both English and Japanese. For Japanese manuscripts that successfully pass the peer review process and are accepted, SSJJ covers the entire cost of professional translation. Authors collaborate with the Managing Editor to refine the text's nuances, enhance clarity and sophistication, and standardize the use of discipline-specific terms and concepts.
The journal’s interdisciplinary focus on the social sciences fosters both discipline-specific, and interdisciplinary conversations on emerging research and debates within Japanese society.
