Melania Manco, MD, PhD, FACN

Professor, clinical research scientist and consultant endocrinologist at Bambino Gesù Hospital, Rome, Italy

Her research interests have included understanding of mechanisms linking fatty acids metabolism, insulin sensitivity and reversal of diabetes in patients with severe obesity following bariatric surgery; and more recently, metabolic programming and the early onset of obesity and associated cardiometabolic diseases, including metabolic associated liver steatosis. Her research is now moving toward the understanding of the “obese brain”.

His research interests focus on the epidemiology of obesity.

Jason Halford, PhD C.Psychol (Health)

Professor, part of the Appetite and Obesity research team, School of Psychology, University of Leeds, UK

His research interests include appetite regulation and weight management, psychological determinants of treatment outcomes, mental health, and barriers to access to weight management services.

Marzieh Salehi, MD, MS, FACP

Professor, Internal Medicine/Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism and Medical Director of the Bartter Clinical Research Unit, Audie Murphy Hospital, University of San Antonio Health at San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas, USA

Her research is focused on glucose metabolism and energy balance in humans mediated by proglucagon peptides. Her clinical expertise is diabetes, obesity, and related complications as well as glucose and metabolic alteration following rerouted gut.

Andrea Haqq, MD, MHS, FRCP(C), FAAP

Professor of Pediatrics, Adjunct Professor of Agricultural, Food & Nutritional Science at the University of Alberta and Pediatric Endocrinologist at the Stollery Children's Hospital, Edmonton, Canada

Her clinical and research interests include understanding the genetic and metabolic foundations of pediatric obesity in order to develop novel and personalized approaches to prevention and treatment, including dietary, pharmacologic and bariatric.

Gabriella Milan, BS, PhD

Research Scientist and Consultant Biologist at the Endocrine Metabolic Lab, Department of Medicine, University of Padova, Center for the Study and the Integrated Management of Obesity, Internal Medicine 3, Padova University Hospital, Italy

Her research is focused on adipose tissue biology, adipogenesis, adipose tissue stem cells and adipose tissue-liver-muscle crosstalk. Her research interests include pathogenesis and treatment of obesity and metabolic complications, Type 2 diabetes, rare genetic diseases, ciliopathies, Alström Syndrome.

Jean-Michel Oppert, MD, PhD

Professor of Nutrition, Sorbonne University and Head of the Nutrition Department, at Pitié-Salpetriere University Hospital, Paris, France

Research focus: measurement of physical activity and sedentary behaviour in health and disease with a focus on obesity, investigation of environmental determinants of physical activity and diet, and study of behavioural and metabolic/energy balance changes associated with weight loss.
